The Heat Really Gets to You

You know how at Christmas time people are always using Christmas as an excuse for whatever goes wrong, "Oh well it's Christmas time after all!"  Well we are now finding ourselves saying the same about the hot weather.  Whatever goes wrong it's "It's the heat".  And it is.  Take yesterday for instance.

Doug has been diligently working on redoing the boxes in the back of the pickup.  He tries to work in the morning and as the day wears on he moves the truck into the shade whenever it goes.  Well yesterday he decided he would see how the new boxes work when hooking up.  Nope!  He made them about 2 inches too narrow.  "It's the heat".

In the afternoon we went into Vernon to the Walmart there.  Walmart went well.  On the way out of the mall we noticed The Brick (big Canadian furniture chain).  Well we have been talking about how we could make the living room of the fifth wheel roomier.  We have already replaced one of the original bucket chairs with a nice big recliner.  We have a sofa bed (aerobed inside) that is pretty useless.  It's just not comfortable and we never sit there.  In the year we have been full-timing we have had one guest sleep on it, once.  So we go into The Brick and buy a new loveseat.  Not a sofa bed, just a loveseat.  It's a lighter colour and it's probably a lot lighter in weight too.   This is it.....
So I tell the salesman that Friday morning we will be bringing our house to them to pick up the new loveseat and we will need someone to help us get it in.  I don't envy Doug and the boys getting the sofa bed out of the fiver and into the house.

We are giving the last bucket chair and the sofa bed to our nephew here at the farm.  They always have lots of company and they can certainly use it.

We we blame our new purchase on the heat!  But it's going to be great.

On the way back, I send a text to Graeme.  I press send and it sends, and sends, and sends.  Half hour later it's still sending and it won't let me cancel or even turn the phone off.

When we get back Doug decides to take the battery out.  He carefully puts it back in and now we have nothing!  Dead.  Okay we will recharge the phone, it must be out of juice.  When it is full charged, still nothing.  Damn, now we have no phone.  We will have to go back into Vernon and get another.

About this time, the generator runs out of gas and Doug has to run into Armstrong for more.  He is feeling just awful about the phone being dead.  Well, well, well.  Here's the story.  At night Doug always turns the phone "OFF" in the morning I turn the phone "ON".  Doug has never turned it "ON" and he presumed that simply opening the flip turned it on.  Nope.  So he was relieved when he came back and I showed him how to turn it "ON".  He says "It's the heat".

Today, it's still hot so I got up and baked two Sweet Potato pies for the bake-off at the family reunion.
I got up at 6:15 and was all finished by 9:00 am.  Here are my pies.

I have two more desserts to bake so I will be up early for a few days.  Oh well, it's the heat!

We go out running errands and I say we should go to Camping World while we are out. When we finish the other tasks Dave asks if I still want to go to Camping World. "No, it's too hot." Adding we could come back another day. But, it's too hot to came back. So we go now. They are out of the rug we went to buy. It's too hot!

Oh my! You've certainly had it rough lately. I bet you just want to turn the air conditioner on high and go to bed. Cool weather is ahead. Maybe that will help.

It clouded up by the end of the day but it was still over 100* and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter.
