ELKHART/GOSHEN/SOUTH BEND? INDIANA OR MICHIGAN - Your Choice

What title of this blog entry means is that all those places are really the same place - the rv manufacturing capital of the world.  All the factories are here.  We are going our the factory tour for our motorhome - Thor Challenger - tomorrow afternoon.

Yesterday we crossed paths with Jan and Bill Mains again.  We last saw them in Fort MacLeod, Alberta.  Jan and Bill are here for a Montana Owners rally at the fair grounds.  Their friends Harry and Carlena are tagging along.  We met them for lunch.  Good to see them again.

This morning we went to The RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame.  Those of you who know me well, know I don't generally do museums.  This was different.

It is a very interesting walk through the history of RV's and motorhomes.  From 1913 to present day, people have been taking to the road in their vehicles.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

A few photos of some of the more interesting ones.

This was Mae West's touring home, chauffeur driven of course.

The last four photos have quite a story.  This motorhome, a fairly recent one, was manufactured as a "party room" to go along with a motorhome.  It has no beds, and no stove.  It does have a fabulous bathroom and a wine cooler.  At a cost of $500,000, this custom made party on wheels never made it on the road because it was top heavy and he couldn't get it registered to drive.

Tomorrow is our factory tour and then we are off to David's house in Minnesota.  Two one night stops first.

Just what everybody needs - a party RV to take along. Some people definitely have way too much money. We love that area.

You'll have to stop in Amarillo and visit the free RV museum.

The Rise n Roll Bakery is a great stop and Essenhaus in Middlebury... 12-20 miles east of Elkhart.. We spent 13 days one time and a week the second time at Thor Service Center... They treated us like gold. Love that area....
