BETTY'S RV PARK - Abbeville, Louisiana - PART ONE

We have been looking forward to this stop since June when I booked it.  We were here less than 10 minutes when we decided that 1 week was not going to be long enough.  We are here for 2 weeks.

Betty has a reputation for her warm Southern hospitality and boy does she have that in spades.

When we arrived there were just three rigs here.  There are just 15 sites and so we chose Site 15.  Happy Hour (it's never just an hour) is at 4:30 and we met the other guests.  What fun!  What food!

This picture is not from the first day but gives you an idea of the ambiance
The next day five more rigs.  Three staff from Escapee headquarters, another couple who used to own the RV driving school attached to Escapees, a couple from Wisconson and a very new to RVing couple joined the group.

That first night, six of us went down to the town square to listen a band performing there.  What an experience.  We were not aware that this kind of thing still went on.  What a setting!
Unfortunately, neither of us had our cameras.  There will be more music in the square all week and we will get some pictures.

The couple we  became fast friends with, Terry and husband Paul, from Toronto, left the next morning with promises of meeting again in the not too distance future.

Yesterday we went to the annual Cracklin Cooking festival at a local bar in a neighbouring town (there are a lot of neighbouring towns).  It started at 8:00 am, yes, in the morning.  Free beer, free food and great zydeco music from a live band.  I can honestly say, we have never had beer at 9:00 in the morning but we did AND basically deep fried fat and catfish, and beignets, sweet potatoes and chicken.  Needless to say Doug and I were not well that night.

Cracklin, sweet potato and a little beignet

Yes folks, it's barely 9:00 am and we are drinking beer.  After all it was FREE

The music was great!  The band was called Louisiana Groove and apparently this is the third generation to have the band.  Notice, they all smoke.  Well maybe not the drummer.

And there was dancing.  Lots of it.  And these people are good, very very good.  We did dance but only because....

A little heavy on that red dye sister

There is no way these stills can give you the flavour of the Cracklin Cooking festival, so one video. I hope it plays for y'all.

That is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the local culture. How fun.

I'm glad you're having a fantastic time. It will make this a winter to remember for you. However, I'm not so sure beer at 9AM would appeal to me. Come to think of it, beer at 9PM wouldn't appeal to me either. Enjoy!

There is no place like Betty's. Will you be there for the omelet festival?

We love zydeco music. Can't understand a word of it but love it. Keep the party going.
