OUR FURRY LITTLE PETS

We have been having a lot of fun with our furry little pets, the chipmunks.  Every year we befriend these interesting little critters.

Many think that our park is named after the chipmunk.  Not so, long story, but it's the name of the family who donated the land some 65 years ago.  The creature on the Monck Park sign is a marmot but that's a whole different blog.

The guys recently painted the sign at the entrance to the park.  The marmot's eye and claws are a little embellished but oh well

MARMOT - we call this one Black Face

We feed the chipmunks.  One might say that doing so is not a good thing because what will they do for food in the winter.  Chipmunks store their food both in their dens and in caches all over the area.  We have a bird feeder which the chipmunks now think is theirs.  They can jump up and swing on the bird feeder and manage to empty it in just a few hours.

Full of bird seed

Less than two hours later - EMPTY

Watch your pocket book. They will eat you out of house and home. But they are so cute.

They eat as much as our birds do.

I try to leave wildlife wild but they are so cute!

I agree with Sandie. Once you start feeding they will expect you to keep it up !

You feed them, we hunt them. even Molly got one of them the other day. Ours are not chipmunks but regular red squirrels. And we are having too many of them. The mild winter made them survive in numbers. They sit under our vehicles....threatening to chew up rubber lines.

I have always been afraid of squirrels. You never see them coming. Always merged in the back ground and all.
