Home Improvements

We love our house.  We have no intention of selling it, at least not for a very long time.  So we improve it.

In 2009 when we bought our brand new Flagstaff Super Lite, the salesman's last words to us were "You are going to full-time in that??".

Day 1 - August 2009

We have been told over the past 6 years that the floors would not last.  Our floors were starting get "spongy" in places.  There was squeaking too.

Original kitchen.  Note the carpet on the floor and the lack of a wall between kitchen and livingroom.  Also the booth.  Also the silly bucket chairs.  And the side valances on the windows.  All long gone.
In December of 2009, Doug added the wall between the living-room and the kitchen.  Making a divided space made the rig more home-like.

The sofa bed was the first of the furniture to go.  They are not comfortable as a sofa or a bed.  It was replaced by a much better love seat. The silly bucket chairs were the next to go.  Instead a comfy lazy-boy for Doug.

Lazy-boy to the right

Last winter in Yuma there were many sand storms and the carpeting was replaced.  Forest River had put lino under the carpeting and we covered the living room area with a really modern area rug.

At this point I must apologize, I have a new computer and most of my old pictures are still on the other computer.

So zoom ahead to present day.  The floor needed to be replaced.  Lucky for us, Doug is a great carpenter.  We were in the construction business for many years.  Out goes the linoleum, in goes 3/8" double finished plywood.  Top that with tiles, beautiful marble-like tiles.  Doug did all this in the heat.

Here is a time lapse of the new floor.

The kitchen looks much bigger

Pretty isn't it.

Stay tuned there is more to come.

By the way, 3/8 inch plywood and tiles on top of that made me a 1/2 inch taller.  I can reach higher on the shelves.

It's absolutely gorgeous. And your last statement really cracked me up.

Improving is certainly smarter than buying a new one. Funny, as we get older we're supposed to shrink. Sounds like you found a way around that. :)))

Great project. Lucky you that you can do it all by yourself.
