What Have We Been Doing in Oak Harbor??

We crossed the border on October 1st without a problem.  In fact, it was so easy, we may never be able to remember it at all.

We are currently "moochdocking" (our friend Jeri's) word in our friend Joe's driveway in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in Washington state.  The island brings back many memories for Doug who grew up on Vancouver Island.  The vegetation, air, and scenery is much the same.

Yesterday morning we set out to visit our favourite thrift store.  We had discovered this store on our very last tent-camping trip in 2008.  It's huge and carries mostly high-end merchandise.  I got a few things there.

Community Thrift Store - Freeland, WA
When left we found a food cart for Bubba Burgers across the street.  Interestingly enough, Joe had been wearing a Bubba Burgers t-shirt that he got in Hawaii that morning.   Well what an experience.  Three young w0men ran the joint and they sang raps while cooking up the food.   Fun and good food.

After lunch we discovered another thrift store just behind the food cart.

For a couple of years, we have been planning on replacing the nook seating in our rig with table and chairs.  We have been watching for the right table, a solid wood one with at least one leaf.   Well we found it; teak, two leaves, in like new condition and just $88.00.  We will be able to seat six for dinner, comfortably.

Last night Joe took us out for Mexican food.  We met up with his friend (now our friend) Linda and three of her friends.  Linda had warned me about the margaritas served at this restaurant, but I had no idea.  This is what she ordered for me.

They call that huge drink a Blue Cadillac.  I shared it with Doug and Linda.

So back to the table.

We had to find chairs. Well you know me, I like to get things done.  Besides, how were we going to pack around the table unless we got right to it and ripped out the nook.  So we did.

Yesterday Doug and Joe took the ripped out nook parts to the dump.  There is another thrift store by the dump.  He had seen two chairs there.  This morning he took me back there.  They were perfect and they were $4.00 each!

Today Doug worked all day.  He put trim all around the bottom of the slide and installed a new blind.  I found some seat cushions at Walmart (cost more than the chairs).  We still have a few nail holes to fill and another piece of trim to replace in the corner.

What do you think?  We love it!  Even though it pretty much takes up the same amount of space, it seems like we have a lot more room.

Oh, very nice! And, since we had dinner with you one evening at Plamosa Road last January, we can visualize the change. Well done... enjoy!

We took out our nook long ago. It does open up the area and gives much more room. I love your table. Fantastic!!
