OSPREY - My Nemisis

os·prey

os·prey [óspree, óss prày]
(plural os·preys or os·prey)
n
fish-eating hawk: a fish-eating hawk that has long wings and a white head with a dark strip around the eyes.
Latin name: Pandion haliaetus

[15th century. < Old French ospres probably < Latin (avis) ossifraga , a bird of prey mentioned by Pliny, identified with the lammergeier, literally "bone-breaking"]

“Bone-breaking” ear splitting too. We have quite a few osprey at Monck Park. At first these birds were “interesting” and now, to me at least, they are nothing but ANNOYING!

Just outside the gatehouse there is an osprey nest. Osprey nests are found at the top of dead tree.s Foresters actually help the osprey with their nests. When the bird chooses a tree, the forestry department will come along and remove all the branches. They do this because the osprey will naturally choose a power pole and that can be dangerous for the bird and costly to the public.

The pair outside the gatehouse have a young one. And the noise!!! Oh my lord! It is constant. The young one calling for more food, the adults conversing with each other, all of them screeching if a hawk is in the area. Their call is like that of a humongous chicken. “CHEEEEEP, CHEEEEEEP, CHEEEEEEP”. They start early in They start early in the morning and continue until late at night.

Interesting - not anymore.

Take away the food and the Osprey will leave. In other words ... get out your fishing pole. It is fish they are after ... isn't it?

What a hoot! They certain look beautiful but can just image how annoying they must be.

Toni vs the Osprey - and the winner is? I'll have to record some of their "song" for you for Yuma. Tee Hee. Hang in there - the time to leave is coming.

I liked seagulls until the first time we camped by the ocean. It sounds like you are having a similar experience. Hold on; moving time is coming.

I am not fond of Osprey either. I would love, however, to come across some Bald Eagles.
