THE COW IN THE CUPBOARD and other stuff

A long time ago, or at least it seems, when we lived in a house and ran a successful eBay business, Doug visited thrift stores daily.  He collected books for the business and often brought me funny little things.

Little Cow
One day he brought me a little cow.  The little cow was supposed to be a deterrent.  You put the little cow in the fridge and when you opened the fridge, it mooed.  This was supposed to keep you from eating!  We loved the little cow.  Eventually the cow was moved to the top of the cabinets in the kitchen and in the morning, when the sun touched her, she mooed.  She sat up there for many years before we went on the road.

When we went on the road, we brought Little Cow along.  She first sat on top of the cabinets again but mooed too often.  Whenever the sun, and we had a lot of that, hit her, she mooed.  Little Cow is now in the overhead cupboard above the dining room table.  She entertains guests when we reach for a napkin or a wine glass.  Sometimes, Little Cow moos just because the sun touches the cupboard.

Here we are in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.  We call it the Lower Mainland because the

metropolis of the  city of Vancouver, which is at the bottom of British Columbia,  stretches about 60 miles up the Fraser Valley from the ocean.

It has been cold.  At night the temperature dips to -10 C or about 14 F.  We have been doing our best to stay warm and to keep hoses from freezing.  The furnace runs nearly all day.  We have used a propane tank since we got here.  That's five days worth or about $25.00 worth.  A tank of propane would last us more than a month in Arizona.  Last night we had the cold water line to the bathroom freeze but it thawed by lunch time.  We do not have our water line attached, rather we fill the tank manually daily.  We air out the cupboards daily to prevent condensation and therefore, mold. According to the weather forecast, we have had the worse of it.  Come on spring.

Careful that icicle doesn't hit Parker on the head. Sure hope your weather improves quickly.

The cow is cute but the weather you are having is nothing to laugh about. I'd be freezing to death. Isn't it time for you to think about heading south?

You make me cold just reading about it. I will try to send some spring your way.

Wanderin' - You do know we are stuck here, right? We can't come back to the USA now until September or October. C'mon spring!

I love the little cow that greets sunshine! That would make me smile. If it didn't do it too often. :)
