We stayed in Quartzsite for 6 days and we were ready to leave the wind and dust.
Our first stop was the brand new Walmart in Barstow. The lot was level and our night was quiet and uneventful, the best way.
We didn't have far to go yesterday so we dawdled and took in the Rio Tinto mine site at Boron, California. This is where borax is mined. Orginally borax was mainly used for the laundry detergent, 20 Mule Team. They have since diversified and borax is used in plastics, glass, oil, and insulation. The mine at Boron is the source of 40% of the world's demand for borax. The site in Boron employs 800 but world-wide they employ over 50,000 people.
We had originally thought we would stay 4 days but we like it here at Orange Grove RV in Bakersfield and the weather is perfect. We will stay a week. There is lots of shopping and things to explore.
Orange Grove RV is actually an orange grove. February is harvest time for oranges and we are encouraged to pick the oranges. They are the sweetest you have ever tasted. Fresh from the tree yummy.

We liked Orange Grove RV Park as well but all the low hanging fruit had been picked before we got there. Lucky you to be there at the right time.
We really enjoyed the Borax museum.
That's someplace we'll add to our list of places to visit.
Sorry we didn't get the chance to meet. Try to do that with Bloggers we've been following for years.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
