Yesterday we finally got to go to the Adobe Deli. Our good friend, Lee (IYQ) who passed away last year, made a habit of taking our Escapee group to lunch there whenever they passed through Deming. Lee passed away before we had the privilege.
Adobe Deli is a very unique place. Definitely an experience. The food was second to the decor. When we arrived we were the only ones there. We had heard that the French Onion soup was their specialty. We had that as well as deep fried green beans and the shrimp basket.
We learned all about the place from the waitress and waiter who are the owners. The place was opened in 1977 by the father of the waitress. They came from New York and have been collecting stuff since they opened.
A few pictures of the place.

We were surprised to see quite a campsite. The website says that there are only 8 sites but there are at least 40 sites. The power and water sites are in the usual rv park style but the other sites are very interesting interspersed in the rock formations.

We will definitely keep this in mind for future camping.
After City of Rocks park we carried on to Silver City. Again we were surprised. Silver City has an old town but the rest of it is very modern and seemingly prosperous. There is a huge copper mine. We toured around and took some pictures.
A little chapel overlooking the city. Unfortunately it was closed. |

After our tour we had a wonderful lunch in a quaint little restaurant coincidentally called The Adobe Springs Cafe. The food was excellent as was the service.

Tomorrow we are going back to Tucson for a few days.

Lee and I were never in Deming at the same time so I never made it to Adobe Deli. Glad you got there even if it had to be without Lee.
Never ate at Adobe Deli. I love onion soup. Yours looks delicious.
City of Rocks is a great place to do some hiking. Glad y'all are enjoying the good life.
We were lucky enough to eat at Adobe Deli with Lee several times. It is definitely a very unique place and we liked it. The City of Rocks looks interesting from your pictures too. Maybe one of these days we'll be able to check it out too.
