The Tabasco Tour was recommended by several our of full-timing friends. Avery Island was a mere 37 minutes from Betty's RV in Abbeville.
The tour is a self guided one. We are not fans of spicy foods or Tabasco but you know, when in Rome....
It was very hot today so the fact that most of the exhibits were indoors, in air-conditioning, made it even more enjoyable. We learned all about the McIlhenny family and the beginnings of Tabasco in 1868. We even tried Tabasco ice cream. Prices in the gift shop were amazingly low and upon check out, the girl added several freebies including a jar of spicy beans.
This is a two part tour. There is a Jungle Garden self guided tour too. The price for both was $12.00 with a 10% discount for seniors.
The Jungle Garden was not really a jungle but beautiful gardens. Apparently there are abundant alligators but we saw none. We saw no birds either, apparently it is too hot for the birds.
Both tours were great.
We had lunch at the cafeteria style restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised that there were salads on the menu. We both had shrimp salads. Scrumptious!

Being on vacation is a lot of fun. Enjoy every minute of it.
Hello Toni from Dennis & Carol Hill,
It was nice meeting you all and we had fun too! Hope to see ya in Quartzsite. Bring that pizza...
See ya
Just one good time after another. Keep the party going.
Ditto for Dennis and Carol's comment. I can't believe you didn't see any alligators in the jungle tour. It was warmer when we were there.
Good for you for choosing the shrimp salad! I take it your healthful eating plan is still in place. Be careful that you don't do like I did and eat so many salads you wind up on a lettuce boycott. :)
