I don't think that I have ever introduced my readers to our town. With a population of 7,100, Merritt has a little of everything. We do lack a movie theater and as there is no cablevision out here at the lake, we are so grateful for the great library in Merritt. With access to over 4,000 DVD's we are thoroughly entertained.
The ride into town first takes us through miles of ranchland. At this time of year the cows have just calved. There are various fields of cattle, some cows with calves, some cows that are still carrying, and sadly some that the calves have been taken away from their mothers. Bulls are in an entirely different area.
The Nicola Ranch is also the site of the Murray church, established in 1876.
Many heritage homes are still occupied.
This is a working ranch and we often witness cowboys rounding up the cattle and sheep.
Fields and fields of alfalfa are grown to feed all these cattle.
Merritt has all the fast food franchises. We are about half hour from town so they are not that accessible, thank goodness.
The hospital. Unfortunately there is not a maternity ward. Mothers must travel an hour to Kamloops to have their babies. We know of many cases of babies born en route.

A nice little town. Kind of like where I grew up in farming and ranching land.

I like hanging around small towns as long as I know a bigger one isn't too far away either. Looks like you have everything you need.
Thanks for the tour of your little town. Wish more were like that.
nice, thanks for the brief tour
