QUARTZSITE TO OVERTON

That wasn't the plan.  We had not planned to leave Quartzsite yet and we certainly hadn't planned to drive all the way to Overton, Nevada (approximately 300 miles, all up hill ;).

Friday afternoon in Quartzsite it was extremely windy.  Now I know, you say, it's always windy in Quartzsite but it was really windy.
The wind and the sand.
We started seeing flash flood warnings on the tv weather channel.  We talked about moving, we decided to wait.  Saturday at bedtime, out the window, we saw this.

We hoped it wasn't a rig burning and it wasn't.  It was the garbage dump

It rained all night (after the fire was out) and in the morning we decided we would hook up and drive until it stopped raining.  It didn't stop.

Our destination was Overton, Nevada.  Overton is a great last stop before really heading north.  The rain has just stopped so I am not going to post pictures of our site from this year.

March 2013
There are seven sites at the Overton Wild Life Refuge.  They are huge sites (sometimes three rigs are sharing) with shelters, BBQ's and fire pits.  The wildlife is all around.  The little town of Overton has most things necessary for boondocking.  There is free water behind the now defunct laundramat.  There is a decent grocery store, McDonalds with Red Box, and even a little theatre.  We will stay for about 2 weeks and then head north through Nevada.

A little hint for fellow rv'ers.  We use Walmart almost exclusively.  This week I opened a Savings Catcher.  Every time you shop at Walmart you enter the receipt number and if there are cheaper prices on what you bought in the area, they credit your account with the different.  You can save up the amounts and have them send it to you on a gift card whenever.  I bought about $100.00 of groceries and I have $2.39 in my account.  Pretty good for doing nothing.

We do not know whether the account will work in Canada.

I started the Walmart Catcher before Christmas. I have already collect over $30. They did just change their policy though. They have dropped comparing some of the items and have dropped some of the stores they compare prices to. Still such a simple way to save money.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to open the Walmart Catcher account today!

Q certainly did look windy. It was beautiful when we were there. Glad we got out of there before the bad weather rolled in.

That orange glow in the sky would have made the hairs on my neck stand! We have had rain and more rain here too.

You don't want to be in the desert when there is a bad storm, so moving along was a good thing.

Yea the wind has been whipping around for the past few weeks and has been REALLY blowing hard here in Ocotillo Wells...cannot wait until we can leave the area in about a month.

We have been using the Walmart Catcher and have over $20 accumulated so far but always forget to use it at the register.
