SHUNPIKING TO SUTHERLIN

SHUNPIKING = traveling the road less traveled, shunning the turnpike.  RV ese.

Doug does not like traveling the main roads and particularly the I5.  So we find ways around it.  We find ways around the big cities too.  We never do Seattle or Portland.

Today we left the casino at Florence, Oregon, made a left at Reedsport and followed Route 38 and then 138 to Sutherlin and the Timberline Escapee park.  Pretty route, lots of fall colours.

We hope to visit a few more Escapee parks this winter.  This one is gorgeous, all decked our for autumn.  We attended their "Friendship Hour" and found the people to be very friendly.  Seems like they don't get a lot of Canadians this way.  We were like a novelty to them.  They asked a lot of questions.

Site 87 - our home for 3 days.
We have no neighbours to the left and the ones on the right have obviously gone south already.  The clubhouse is across the street for easy laundry access ;)

We walked around and took a few pictures of the trees.  Wow, eh!

We had been told that there were wild turkey in the park and were witness to this parade of turkey this afternoon.  Right behind our rig.

Thanks to our good friend Jeri, we have erased our chalk plans and have decided against traveling to Park Sierra from the north along Route 49.  Too treacherous for big rigs.  Instead we are going to head to the Escapee park at Pahrump, near Las Vegas with a casino stop in Reno.  Perhaps this time we will actually go into Las Vegas and see if we can help them out with their abundance of cash.

WOW...what a huge site. We have never been to that Escapee's park.

We, too, enjoy getting off the busy highways.

Love those fall colors.

Baldini's was a great casino to stay at in Sparks (which is so close to Reno that you don't know where one ends and the other begins.) Beautiful colors.

We stayed at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno. It wasn't free but I think there may be a few you can find by checking casinocamping.com.

I've never been disappointed with the Timberline SKP Park. Never went to any of their gatherings, but I'm usually only there for the night. Love the wildlife running around the park and have many pictures of them from over the years.
