Disaster Averted

The axles, it's always been the axles.  Since our first incident in Georgia in 2010, we have known that one day the axles would have to be replaced.  Although Forest River makes the Flagstaff with adequate axles, that's it, adequate.  Early on we noticed that most rigs our size have 6 or even 8 lug nuts, we have 5.  Doug has replaced the bearings and sometimes more than that eight times (usually on the side of the highway).

Yesterday morning we set out for Kamloops.

We had an appointment at Drago's in Kamloops.  Since getting a recommendation from our RV parts supplier, we have heard half a dozen RVers praise Drago.

We had been on the road only 15 minutes when upon checking the hub, Doug realized we had blown a bearing.  Twice more the bearing was replaced.  We limped to the Quilchena Resort.  They allowed us to dry camp in their rear lot.  Trying to make the best of our situation, we had a wonderful dinner in their dining room.  A pretty place, wouldn't you say.

We realized that there was nothing we could do but get a tow to Kamloops.  We expected it to be very expensive.  $285.00 is not bad for 85 kilometers/50 miles.  We followed.  That was very stressful.  The trailer was being towed on 3 wheels.

Notice that there is only one wheel on the driver's side
But we made it.  The tow truck driver was fantastic.  A very caring and careful young man.

Because we are a day late, we will have to stay in a motel for a couple of days.  We haven't done this for a long time.  It's quite nice, even luxurious.

We know a few people who have had to replace the axles and wheel bearing to heavier ones, once done, no more problems
Good luck.

Oh crap. So sorry to read about your towing. We know how scary that is seeing your home being towed down the street. Gives you a helpless feeling.

Hope the repair goes quickly and you are back on the road enjoying the good life.

It seems if it's not one thing, it's another. We haven't been towed yet in the motorhome but used our Good Sam Roadside Assistance to replace a tire on it. We also used it to tow our 5th wheel. Hopefully, you'll be out of there in no time and never have another axle problem. I hate problems.

We have Good Sams now too but after reading the website, I don't think the roadside assistance is available in Canada. Or we don't have that package.

Fill the bathtub and have a good soak and a glass of wine.

Staying in a motel has become a mixed blessing for us. At least you look like you got a good one. I hope the repairs go well.

Flat tires, hot bearings.....all that is part of an RVer's life on the road. No fun when it happens, but most times it can be fixed. Had our fair share of all that over the years.
