Today we thought we would soak up some local flavour. There were posters all around Overton advertising a Pomegranate Festival at the fairgrounds. Doug and I know next to nothing about pomegranates so we thought we would educate ourselves.
I have had maybe three pomegranates in my life, Doug never has. I have always found them just too much trouble for the small amount of fruit you get.
My opinion hasn’t changed! We saw people coming out with huge bags of pomegranates. What? we they going to do with them? And then the price, holy smokes. This little sucker was $2.00.
Some others were $5.00 each. That huge bag was probably $20.00.
So what do they do with them. As far as we can tell, they make jams and jellies. Toast jellies and hot sauce type jellies. Even though we were given instructions on how to properly open a pomegranate, it’s still a lot of work.
On the way back we did see a couple of pomegranate trees with fruit still on them. (sorry my camera has a ghost)
Doug tried a sample. Not impressed! So we left with one pomegranate, some nice hand made soaps (not pomegranate) and something much more to our liking…
We also discovered that Clark County Fairgrounds has rv parking. Probably for a fee.
We have decided that when we leave here (when the black tank tells us it’s time) we will go to Valley of Fire State Park to dump, fill and stay one night.

I love Pomegranates. They are an Italian fruit. My Italian grandma used to make all types of dishes with them. They were especially delicious at Christmas. Every have a Pomegranate martini? DELICIOUS!!!
I like pomegranates too but they are a lot of work to eat. We don't buy many. Festivals are always fun. Valley of Fire -- fantastic. We love it there.
I'm not a pomegranate fan either. Too much bother. But small town festivals are definitely a lot of fun.
