GENEALOGY - Freaky

On and off for a year I have been working on the Laird family tree.

I have found relations in New Zealand and Australia who are helping fill in the blanks.  Actually many years ago we had a customer on our eBay site from Australia who sent us a picture of ancestors (unfortunately unidentified so far) who bear an uncanny resemblance to some of our Lairds.

So lately I've got serious about doing this and searched the internet.  I found a website about family history in the Shetland Islands, Scotland.  Well today I just entered a new century, 1700 !!!

It's really freaky, I physically shake when I transfer information to our family tree site.  I have my connections in Australia and New Zealand in constant contact so we can figure out who and when took the family so far a field.

Doug's grandmother was a Bruce.  Bruces as in Scottish royalty, like in the movie Braveheart.

Lots and lots of children had their parents names. Some surprises like who would have thought Ursula would be a Scottish name.  And it's interesting because somewhere along the line someone (s) knew about these folks because way down the line we have Andrews, Williams, and Barbaras.

Many, many large families, eleven children.  Only one second marriage (well, well we have changed that).

A very interesting fact - that way back when in the 1800's Bruces had longevity.  Some living into their 90's.  Wow.

Stay tuned.  More to come.

We have some genealogy on both sides of the family but should probably buckle down and do more.

One of the freaky things in our family is that Dave's newest great-nephew is now named Maxwell Ulysses and my paternal grandfather's name was Max Homer. Those two aren't even related except through our marriage.

I keep thinking I should do some genealogy and then I just go nope I don't think so. You, though, have definitely made a lot of progress if you're back to the 17th century. Wow.

I have a friend that traced his family back to the 1300s. Boggled my mine. I don't even know where I would start.

Keep working hard and keep us informed what you have found. The 17th century is a huge accomplishment!

Genealogy is interesting. It's solving a mystery that relates to you. I've spent years and years doing research. It's a never ending process and once you find an answer to one thing something else quizzes you. Enjoy!!
