FEBRUARY FOLLIES

Oh, the fun we have been having.  At the SKP park here in Casa Grande they do the majority of their fundraising all in one fun-filled week.  We have not been here at this time before but had promised we be here for it this year.

Where to start.  There is an appointed Sheriff and three Deputies. (apparently spies as well).  The jurisdiction of these officials is questionable but runs from fining residents a quarter for not wear their name tags and park t-shirts to being negative, whining, sniveling and not laughing and smiling at the appropriate time.  For those of who do not have a park t-shirt and don't care to buy one, one can buy a pass for $2.00 which you must wear around your neck all the time.  Major infractions will get you a Summons to appear before Judge Judy in a Kangaroo Kourt.

Most meals are provided (for a fee) in the Clubhouse.  There are many great cooks in this park and different couples cook the meals.  We did not participate in many but those that we did have were fantastic.

There are lots and lots of activities:  golf tournaments, billiards tournaments; bean bag baseball, skits and a Victor's Secret Fashion show (with guys, old guys).  There are raffles and draws.  The residents have collected 100's, yes 100's of raffle prizes ranging from crafts to $100 restaurant cards.  (so far nothing for us).

Tuesday night was Casino Night.  $5.00 bought you $100.00 in play money.  There was horse racing, blackjack, Yahtzee, Stockticker, and a couple of versions of poker.  I parlayed my $100 into $1000 but didn't win a prize.

If laughter is indeed the best medicine, we are going to be cured of all ails.  We have laughed so hard.

Friday night was there was a skit.  Not sure the skit actually had a title but it could have been called "Under the Bed".  It was all about all the stuff rv'ers store under their beds.  We could all relate.

After the skit we had the "Victor's Secret" fashion show.  The Clubhouse was arranged with a runway and of course only women sat in the front row.  Dollars were provided for rewarding their favourite model.  You have to give it to these "gutsy" old guys.

Jessie didn't have money - will keys do??

Yesterday there was a food auction.  I baked a beautiful chocolate cake.  I made sure it was perfect.  I didn't want to be humiliated with a low bid.  My cake was auctioned third and I was thrilled with the $27.00 it raised.  However..... as the auction went on and I realized this was indeed the fundraiser of all fundraisers, I realized $27.00 was nothing.  Tiny jars of jam and pickled beets went for more than $50.00!!!!  We had all heard whispers about Angela's Bread Pudding and Lucille's Rum Cake, favourites in this park.
The bread pudding brought $245.00 and the rum cake $250.00.  Over 50 items were auctioned and they raised close to $3,000.00!

Last night was Kangaroo Kourt with our very own Judge Judy.  There were summons for going fishing and missing all the events; for spousal abuse (the man who paid $250.00 for the rum cake beaten by his wife); and one for soliciting "bad luck" at casino night.

But the biggest summons of all was for none other than THE SHERIFF.  The sheriff was summoned for misfeasance, malfeasance, nonfeasance, threatening petitioners and not smiling enough.  A "joint task force" of US Marshalls, the RCMP (Doug was one) and the Assistant Deputy Attorney served the summons and our beloved Josephine Arpaio resisted arrest - yet another charge.

Well Kangaroo Kourt went late into the night (8:00 pm at least).  Ms Arpaio claimed that she was being impersonated and she indeed had just returned from Hawaii (and was dressed appropriately).   However, I had PICTURES.  We simply showed Judge Judy the pictures I had posted to Facebook and slam, blam, thank you mam - SHE WAS GUILTY as charged.

The last event is this evening with the major raffle prizes being drawn (fingers and toes crossed), tournament prizes awarded and a closing ceremony.  Of course food will be served.
