Alliston to Ottawa - Shunpiking at its Best

http://maps.google.ca/maps?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hl=en&tab=wl

Check it out.  We are quite proud of ourselves.  We set the GPS and had the map and hoped they coincided.  There were a few stressful detours.

Yesterday we made it from north of Toronto to Ottawa avoiding the major highways.  We did this for a couple of reasons.  Traffic in Ontario is crazy.  Ontarians tend to speed and generally not obey the signs.  The number of times we have been passed on a double solid is amazing.  The second reason - they have fancy viaduct type underpasses that aren't high enough for fifth wheels!  You can actually see marks where they have been hit.  Locals say "stay in the middle lane" and you will be fine.

You can see that the trees have started to change here in Canada.

The trip was quite pleasant once I stopped worrying about where we were.  Doug has a very good sense of direction so as long as we knew which direction we were going, he was okay.  We got to see a lot of the province that we wouldn't have if we had taken the freeway.

<<<< more trees changing colours.

Today we will do the touristy things in Ottawa.  We are going to Capital Hill to see the Parliament Buildings and I will hope that Doug doesn't punch any politicians in the nose.

Hey - ever notice that the capital of Canada is right above the capital of the United States.

Quebec City is one place I did want to visit ... just never made it there!

Massachusetts has the same low overpasses. I couldn't believe that at some places they were under 11' high.

I am not sure we will make it to Quebec City either. It's an awkward distance. Too close to pull the rig to, too far for a day trip.

Miss GPS tried to send us down a road with a 10'6" overpass today but NY was smart enough to put a warning sign out far enough ahead so we could turn before we got caught and couldn't turn around.
