Terrace - Not Much Going On

I haven't posted in a few days because not much is going on.  We are back at our friends' RV Park, The Wild Duck, in Terrace, spending time reacquainting ourselves.

One thing I did want to post though and have been meaning to since we got this far north is how long the days are.  This picture was taken at the RV park in Prince Rupert.  It is 10:00 pm!!!!  As most of you know, I don't sleep very well so I am aware that at 3:30 am, it is already light outside.  So up here in the north, they get nearly 18 hours of sunlight a day in May.  I guess I was so used to this when I lived up here I did not pay much attention it that fact.

Today we drove from Terrace to Kitimat.  Kitimat is the home of Alcan Aluminium which over the last decade has been in various levels of production.  It seems to be doing okay now.  That's good because being a one industry town, the town would die without it.  And as you can see by the pictures that would be a shame.

Here is something interesting to post.  About 10 years ago, someone nailed a pair of shoes to a big tree trunk just outside Prince Rupert.  Over the years since then, many many more pairs of shoes have been added and it has become famous - The Shoe Tree is above.  (Maybe....I think.....the Wi Fi is sllllllloooooowww).

Today we saw a moose.  Unfortunately it was crossing the highway rather quickly and I could not get the camera ready fast enough.  The last time we saw a moose was in Aunt Sarah's living room eating pancakes over our shoulders, but that's a whole other story.

Oh yeah one more picture that may or may not upload.  Up here in the wild west there are many Native (or what is the politically correct, Aboriginals, First Nations or whatever) and so we see the native language quite a bit.  Check out this bus and the Haida language on it and then check out above where there is also FRENCH!!!

You need to go back to the tree and see if any nice ones were left in a size 7. I'm looking for new shoes!

I love quirky things like your shoe tree. That's my kind of tourist spot.

I wish you guys could be here with us too. But we'll make up for it when you can come back again.
